About the role:
Laboratory and Facilities Technicians at Sygnature Discovery play a pivotal role in supporting our scientists, ensuring they have the resources they need to carry out scientific research within our well-equipped and cutting-edge laboratories. Whilst this role does not offer a route into a scientific position, it is a fantastic opportunity for a highly enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Facilities Technician team in their efforts to support the successful day-to-day running of our Tytherington laboratories.
Role Responsibilities:
- Day to day running of the media kitchen/wash facility including preparation/dispensing of culture media, pouring agar plates, operation of autoclaves and glass washer, preparation of stock buffers for all laboratories.
- Stock checking of general consumable stores and re-ordering.
- Managing deliveries and receipting of goods/ Visitor greeting.
- Waste management, including solvent waste, cardboard waste, and clinical waste.
- Management of lab gases and dry ice.
- Monthly Facilities and essential H&S equipment checks.
- Register and recording Fixed Asset Numbers on new equipment purchases and recording them on Asset Management systems.
- Co-ordinating dispatches to clients and between Sygnature sites.
- Using relevant systems to identify tasks and track their resolution. (Including Spiceworks and Netsuite).
- Maintaining a tidy workplace in addition to a high level of H&S awareness.
- Travel between our Alderley Park and Tytherington sites to provide support as and when required.
Skills & Qualifications:
- 5 GCSEs or equivalent at grade C or above including English Language and Maths.
- A can-do, enthusiastic work attitude.
- Able to work to deadlines in a safe and efficient manner – prioritising tasks as necessary.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work well within a team.
- A good working knowledge of mathematics and IT – confident in the use of a variety of IT system, including Outlook, Word, Excel and ideally some experience of using purchasing systems.
- Previous laboratory experience would be advantageous but is not essential as full training will be provided.
